Make your Easter Egg-Xtra special with a leap to London!

EnquireBook

OK, we promise that the ‘egg’ pun in the title of our latest blog will be the last one… although we may well find it egg-tremely difficult not to sneak another one in! Sorry, couldn’t resist…

Seriously though, all the weather signs seem to be saying that spring might have finally sprung so, with Easter on the horizon and, maybe, another cracking summer ahead, it might be good time to think about a reenergising break in London?

So, let’s talk Easter in London…

For all those with little ones to keep happy, there are some really great Easter egg hunts happening:

You can search for mystery objects, strange animals and hidden stories at the National Maritime Museum’s series of fun workshops (7th-21st April) or maybe explore Kensington Palace’s rooms and gardens during the famous Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt for yummy choccy treats and prizes, from 6th to 22nd April.

Mini ‘culture vultures’ can enjoy an Easter egg hunt as they learn about London’s history at some of English Heritage’s properties, including Hampton Court Palace or enjoy some wet and wacky-quacky fun, by scouring the WWT London Wetland Centre nature reserve for yellow ducks to win a prize – both run from 6th to 22nd April.

Away from the little ones, we always find that when people think of London they think of all the usual landmarks and areas of retail therapy but, if and when the spring sun is shining, then London’s stunning parks and greenery really do come into their own.

London is blessed with so many beautiful areas of parkland and open space; Regent’s Park; Greenwich Park; Clapham Common, Battersea Park, to name but a few.

However, in today’s blog, we are going to focus on the wonderful parks in and around the City of Westminster and spotlight some of the places we can offer you to stay and enjoy what’s on offer.

Firstly, did you know there are at least four major London Parks in Westminster?

Within the 8 square miles of the borough, you have Green Park, St James’s Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, which give an almost unbroken stretch of open land to enjoy the sheet outdoor splendour London has to offer (sometimes referred to as the ‘Green Lung’).

Whilst Green Park doesn’t feature lakes, buildings or playgrounds, it does offer a beautiful expanse of green space (as the name suggests!).

Right next door is St James’s Park, surrounded by some simply amazing landmarks – Buckingham Palace to the west; Horse Guards to the east; Birdcage Walk to the south and the Mall to the north – so expect stunning views, a lake, two islands and a fabulous collection of nature and waterfowl!

Just to the west is Hyde Park, featuring two lakes – the Serpentine and Long Water lakes – as well as several football pitches, a tennis centre, cycle and equestrian paths. Hyde Park has long been a place for demonstrations and free speech and is steeped in English tradition. So much so that ‘Speaker’s Corner’ has been a place of debate since 1872.

A stone’s throw away from Hyde Park is the idyllic Kensington Gardens, once the private gardens of Kensington Palace. As well as some beautiful open parkland, you’ll also find the Albert Memorial, the Serpentine Gallery and Speke’s Monument.
