Have a Sizzling Summer Break in South Kensington

EnquireBook

South Kensington is one of the richest and most affluent areas of London, but it also has a wealth of visitor attractions and great things to do – even for those watching the purse strings!

South Kensington is without doubt London’s “museum district” – the road they are all on is even called Exhibition Road – and many of the museums offer FREE entry (except for certain special exhibitions. Check their websites in advance) – so in terms of value for money, it’s hard to beat!

So, with some of the world’s best museums, all very close to each other, the hard part is deciding in what order to visit them!

If we had to choose, then we’d probably go for the Natural History Museum first – it must be the animal lover in us!

Whilst there, you can get up-close with nature, discover fascinating creatures and intriguing science and enjoy fun, family-friendly activities. Other things to look out for over summer are CBeebies favourite ‘Andy’s Clock’, the Expeditions and Adventures display, the Museum of the Moon, Narturenauts and Investigate for Families. There’s plenty there to keep you busy!

The nearby Science Museum is billed as the ‘home of human ingenuity’ and it’s certainly a brain-busting tour of scientific achievement.

Right now, there’s the interactive Equinor Gallery – a spectacular interactive world; Top Secret – where you can discover the remarkable world of codebreaking and other cool spy stuff (from July 10th) and a special Summer of Space, celebrating the history of human exploration in space.

By contrast, the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) is a place to witness over 3000 years of human creativity and, after a programme of renewal and restoration in recent years, now boasts Medieval Renaissance galleries, containing some of the greatest surviving treasures from the period, the breathtaking jewellery gallery and the stunning British galleries, illustrating the history of Britain through the nation’s art and design.

Now, if you’re one of life’s shopaholics, then South Kensington is but a stone’s throw away from the world-famous King’s Road, packed full of designer boutiques, restaurants, bars and cafes, and a history steeped in iconic London fashion.

Just as close by is Knightsbridge, home to both Harrods and Harvey Nichols, and you can really feel the affluence in the grand Victorian homes and leafy garden squares, again surrounded by many superb and trendy restaurants, bars and cafes.

If it’s beautiful green space you’re after, then you’ll certainly not be disappointed in South Kensington.

Hyde Park, the largest of the Royal Parks, features two lakes – the Serpentine and Long Water lakes – and houses the idyllic Kensington Gardens (once the private gardens of Kensington Palace), the Albert Memorial and the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain and Playground. You really can spend hours just in Hyde Park on a sunny summer’s day!

So, after all that and, just in case you’ve not fuelled up elsewhere, why not venture along to Old Brompton Road and sample some more amazing food and drink, with restaurants like Wright Brothers for amazing seafood, or Franca Manca for truly amazing sourdough pizzas?

We’re really not exaggerating when we say that there is probably too much to do in South Kensington, so why not let us help you find the perfect place to stay to make the very best if it?
